Trees of Distinction
Dardanelle has been named a” Tree City” by the Arbor Day Foundation and also boasts six trees of distinction listed on the Arkansas Champion Tree list, one of which is a national record holder. Tree City USA is a tree planting and tree care program sponsored by the National Arbor Day Foundation for cities and towns in the United States.
Veterans’ Memorial Riverfront Park and Front Street Gazebo
Veteran’s Memorial Riverfront Park is Located on Front Street, behind city hall, overlooking the Arkansas River. The host site for many festivals and celebrations, including the Free State of Yell Fest, held on Mother’s Day weekend. The City’s Gazebo is a beautiful backdrop, especially the sunrise during Sunrise Service held on Easter Sunday. The Park has a ½ mile walking trail, playground area, and horseshoe pits.
Council Oaks Park and Historic Site
Council Oak Park contains a massive 400 to a 500-year-old white oak tree where the April 1820 Treaty of Council Oaks between acting Governor Robert Crittenden and Black Fox of the Cherokee Nation was signed, giving land south of the Arkansas River to the Arkansas Territory.
